Hi, I've just bought and had fitted an external front door.  I've taken ages to choose one to fit in with the style of our 1930's house, it was unpainted, so I've spend ages sanding it and painting it etc.  My husband says it's very light and he's really unhappy with it.  I just thought it was a normal door and didn't realise, since seeing this site that doors come in 2 thicknesses 40mm and 44mm.  Mine is 40mm.

I wasn't asked or told about the different thicknesses and the prices for the door and fitting was the same for all the doors.  I'm worried that I've now got the wrong door, it does seem much lighter than I think it should be.  I feel a bit of a fool not asking, it also wasn't in the literature, but I just assumed all doors were the same.  Does anyone have a view or ideas about this please?  many thanks

Hi,
It is true that there are two thicknesses of doors, but don’t let it worry you Reba. Though your original door was 44mm and your new one is only 40mm does not mean that your new door is going to give you problems, or be less secure, its just that if you had got a 44mm it would have fitted better to the rebate and be a bit more substantial. Regarding the door weight, there can be big differences in weight depending on the type of wood that has been used to make it, so again, no worries.
Regards
Dave
